Want Your 2025 Matric Results? Here’s When and How to Check — A Complete Guide

Johannesburg, 12 January 2026 — Matriculants across South Africa are counting down the final hours before the Class of 2025 examination results are released — a moment that will shape many futures as tertiary acceptance letters, training opportunities and career paths hang in the balance.

When the 2025 Matric Results Are Released

The results for the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams will be officially announced on Monday, 12 January 2026 by the Department of Basic Education, with individual results becoming available from Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

IEB results will be published online from 00:01 on 13 January.

●NSC results will be accessible online from about 06:00 on the same day.

●Printed results will also be available at schools and examination centres.

How to Check Your Matric Results Online

News24 Matric Results Hub
Students who opted in to media release can check their individual results for free on News24 by entering their examination number into the Matric Results Hub — a dedicated portal on the News24 website.

Official DBE Website

The Department of Basic Education’s official results page also allows learners to access their results by entering their 13-digit ID and examination number

Mobile and SMS Options
Learners can also access results directly on their phones:

●SMS: Send your ID and exam number to short code 35658 (charges apply).
●USSD: Dial *120*35658# and follow the prompts to receive your results.

Important Notes on Privacy and Data

News24’s results portal will only display results for learners who explicitly agreed to have their information published in the media, in line with the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.

Learners who did not opt into this service will need to collect their results directly from their school or provincial education department once results are released.

If You’re Not Happy With Your Results

Students who are dissatisfied with their marks can apply for a re-check or remark of examination scripts, usually for a fee, through their school, district office, or online. Applications must be submitted by 27 January 2026 for the 2025 examinations.

Another option for improvement is to take matric rewrites in the May/June 2026 session, but learners must register by 6 February 2026 if they intend to rewrite.

What If You Didn’t Pass?

Failing marks are not the end of the road. Learners who do not meet the minimum requirements have several pathways: enrol as full-time or part-time candidates to rewrite specific subjects, or explore vocational and technical options such as Further Education and Training (FET) colleges.
