Mets Land CF Luis Robert Jr. in Major Trade With White Sox
The New York Mets have made a splash early in the 2026 offseason by acquiring All-Star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox in a trade announced Tuesday night. The Mets sent infielder Luisangel Acuña and right-handed pitching prospect Truman Pauley to Chicago in exchange for the talented outfielder.
Robert, 28, was once one of baseball’s most promising young stars, highlighted by a 2023 season in which he hit 38 home runs and stole 20 bases. However, injuries and inconsistency at the plate have marked his recent seasons, including a 2025 campaign in which he batted .223 with 14 homers and a career-high 33 stolen bases over 110 games.
The Mets, coming off an 83-79 season and missing the playoffs, have been active in reshaping their roster. The move for Robert follows the signing of two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette, who is expected to play third base in New York.
For the White Sox, the trade represents a continuation of their youth-focused rebuild, bringing in a versatile young position player in Acuña and a pitching arm in Pauley.
The Mets will hope Robert’s elite defense and high-ceiling bat return to form in Queens, where he could become a key piece in their pursuit of postseason contention.
