Malik Monk Torches Lakers Off the Bench in Kings’ Big Upset

In a stunning Monday night upset at the Golden 1 Center, Malik Monk came off the bench and torched the Los Angeles Lakers, leading the Sacramento Kings to a 124-112 victory over one of the NBA’s top teams.

Monk was spectacular in a reserve role, draining seven 3-pointers and finishing with 26 points, giving the Kings a huge scoring spark while filling in for the suspended Dennis Schröder.  In 32 minutes of action, he also flirted with a double-double, adding assists and showcasing why he’s one of Sacramento’s most electric offensive players.

DeMar DeRozan also shined, scoring 32 points and dishing out six assists, helping Sacramento maintain control after a hot start. Russell Westbrook contributed 22 points, while Zach LaVine and Maxime Raynaud added 19 and 11, respectively.

For the Lakers, Luka Dončić was brilliant with 42 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds, and LeBron James added 22 points, but Los Angeles simply couldn’t keep pace from deep—shooting poorly from three and letting Sacramento dictate the tempo.

Monk’s breakout effort may silence some trade whispers surrounding the sixth man, at least temporarily, and gives the Kings a memorable win over a marquee Western Conference opponent.
