Elina Svitolina Cruises into Australian Open 2026 Semifinals with Dominant Win over Coco Gauff
Elina Svitolina delivered one of the standout results of the Australian Open 2026 on Tuesday, dismantling third-seeded Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to reach her first-ever semifinal at Melbourne Park.
The Ukrainian, seeded 12th, was in complete control from the outset, converting early breaks and maintaining relentless pressure on Gauff’s serve. Svitolina needed just 59 minutes to wrap up the victory, extending her unbeaten start to the 2026 season to ten matches and moving back into the world’s top 10 for the first time since her return from maternity leave.
Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion, struggled to find rhythm throughout the match, making numerous unforced errors and failing to hold serve until deep into the second set.
Svitolina now sets up a blockbuster semifinal clash against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who earlier booked her own spot in the last four with a convincing win.
